Concept Cars: Mercedes ESF S400 Hybrid 2009 Initial Photos

A great deal of safety vehicle systems are being showcased by Mercedes-Benz. As what I have read, the German premium car maker has created their Experimental Safety Vehicle, which is the ESF 2009 which is based on the upcoming S400 Hybrid. Well, it is their first vehicle of this nature since the ESV 24 which was introduced at the 1974 Geneva Motor Show.

The ESF 2009 features inflatable metal structures develope to save space and increase crash protection and likewise include side impact bars which would be blown to pressure of between 10 and 20 bar. When deflated they could save some weight and actually allow for other safety apparatus to be fitted.

ESF 2009 has an auxiliary brake on it's floor and its work with a bag that is similar to interior air bags. When the car senses an imminent collision the brake bag inflates to create friction with the road thus also slowing the car down. In addition to that it lifts the car up by up to 80mm to compensate for dive.

More features from this ESF 2009 are along with its interior with standard air bag and restraint system which is fitted with seat bolsters that shift the passengers about 50mm into the center of the cabin should the car sense that a side impact is about to take place. The other safety features of interest are reflective tyres and air bags installed inside a seatbelts.

Future Car: 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

We all know, that Chevrolet has been working on a high-end Corvette to slot above the Z06 as GM's hottest sports car for some time. The car has been known as the Blue Devil and the Corvette SS, but it arrives in dealers this summer it will be the next incarnation of the ZR1.

It said that, the power will be phenomenal. GM is targeting at least 620 horsepower and 595 pound-feet of torque. The ZR1 will be capable of reaching 200 mph and cornering at better than 1 g of lateral grip.

As well as the ZR1's suspension will be much the same as in other Corvettes, but will feature thicker front and rear stabilizer bars and springs that will be slightly softer than those of the Z06. The ZR1 will be offered in seven colors: Black, Velocity Yellow Tintcoat, Victory Red, Atomic Orange Metallic, Jetstream Blue Metallic, Blade Silver Metallic, and Cyber Gray Metallic.
